Broken Lazyboy Recliner? Here’s What You Need To Do
All Lazyboy recliners have top-of-the-line mechanisms that allow you to lock them into various different positions with minimal effort. As long as there is nothing loose or broken, your chair will work perfectly, and you won’t give the whole process a second thought. When something does go wrong, on the other hand, you’ll notice right away. And you’ll want to know what it is that you can do to fix it. If you have a broken Lazyboy recliner, chances are that you have either a broken trip wire or broken seat springs. Here are the lists of steps that will guide you through the process of fixing both problems.
Broken seat springs
Seat springs can be found on the bottom side of your recliner’s seat, and usually get worn out or broken first, since the seat is the part of the chair that undergoes the most pressure. Regardless of whether they are broken or simply weakened, they will need to be replaced in order to get the recliner back in its original state. To replace broken seat springs, you will have to:
1. Remove the back rest of your Lazyboy recliner to get to the seat.
2. Remove the seat so you can get to the seat springs.
3. Turn the seat upside down and, using a staple puller, remove the fabric that hides the seat springs.
4. Take a picture so you won’t have any trouble putting everything back in place.
5. Loosen the clasps that connect the seat springs to the supporting wires.
6. Unscrew the mechanism that connects the seat springs to the sides of the seat frame.
7. Take out the new seat springs (you can buy them off Amazon) and install them where you’ve found the old ones, reversing the process with the help of the picture you’ve taken.
Broken trip wire
The trip wire can be found under the seat of your recliner, and is connected to a short metal rod with a hole through its center. To replace it, you will need to:
1. Remove the seat of your Lazyboy recliner.
2. Take a picture of the mechanism so you have no trouble putting everything back in place.
3. Locate the rod that is connected to the trip wire and unscrew the bolt that secures it in place.
4. Remove the rod and take both ends of the trip wire out.
5. Pull the trip wire out of the slot that can be found on the opposite side of the part with the rod.
6. Take out the new trip wire (you can buy them off Amazon) and install it where you’ve found the old one, reversing the process.
Apart from buying a new one, you can also opt for making it yourself. Three feet of piano wire, either #19 or #20, can be used as a replacement, but you will have to use pliers to bend it into the shape of the old trip wire.
